The beta opened on 17 September with the level cap at 20, and Blizzard will raise it to 30 later in the test. That means nobody — us included — has tested level-60 gear, raid throughput or 40-man scaling. Anyone posting a raid DPS tier list this week is guessing.
So this list ranks what the beta actually lets you play: solo levelling from 1 to 20, the two new dungeons (Hall of Thanes 13-18, Ruins of Lordaeron 15-20), and low-level PvP. It is a week-one snapshot and we will redo it when the cap moves to 30.
How we read it. At level 20 you hold 11 talent points, so a "spec" here is really just the first two rows of a tree. We compared every tree against the Classic tree it replaces using the beta client data behind our talent calculator, and weighted only the changes you can actually reach at this cap. Where that evidence ran out we fell back on how the tree plays while levelling.
S — carries itself with no group and no gear. is still the fastest and safest leveller: the pet holds everything, and Focused Fire is new in the first two rows. drain-tanks through the same content and has four reworked talents inside reach, including Improved Drains and Pandemic. has the most rebuilt opening in the game — every one of its first nine talents changed — and it covers the tank slot the new dungeons are short of. gets Power in Light, Twin Disciplines and Holy Precision inside the first two rows, and healers never wait for a group.
A — strong, with a condition. , and all level well and all have reworked openings. and are in demand for Hall of Thanes the moment you hit 13, but both are slow on their own. keeps the Classic levelling pattern and picks up Ice Lance early. gets Water Shield and Mindfulness in the opening rows.
B — fine, nothing special yet. has the single most interesting change in the group (Arcane Blast is new and reachable), but the tree also took two nerfs up front. , , , , , and all work; none of them is transformed at this cap.
C — the reworks are real but out of reach. received more new talents than any other tree in the game, and you can reach almost none of them at 20. Judge it again at 30. , , and are in the same position for different reasons. takes a nerf to Booming Voice up front and needs gear it cannot have yet.
D — worst place to be this week. has the fewest reachable changes of any tree (three), and warriors are the hardest class to level solo before they get a weapon. has one new talent in the whole tree and takes two nerfs early.
None of this predicts level 60. Rankings will move as Blizzard tunes the beta, and several of these trees are explicitly listed in Blizzard's own known-issues post.
